Planting trees is not only a nice thing to do - it's one way each of us can help improve the environment.

There was a story in the Year II Albanian language book about a ninety year old man who was planting an olive tree.  A king, who was passing by, saw the man and asked if he was hoping to live so long that he could eat from that tree…

It was the moral of the story which inspired the Albanian children of this grade to come up with the idea of planting an olive tree in the school yard. There are already trees that have been there for years, maybe, even since the school was first built.

We do not know how long it will take for the tree that Eli, Nikoleta, Yldon, Jona, Erisa and Egin have planted to grow or how long it will take to produce fruit.  Furthermore, other children in the future may not know who has planted this tree.  But the children of Grade II are so proud and happy they have contributed in decorating and making positive changes for their school environment .

But above all, they have learnt the lesson of the fable: “Other people worked for us, so let’s start to work for the ones who will come after us.”
